The first 250 accounts are free for life. Not free for a while, and not free with a bill later. Free, on two conditions, both of which are in your control and neither of which is buried.
1. Use it at least once a fortnight
Check in on any habit at least once every 14 days. Go a full 14 days without a single check-in and the seat ends. One check-in resets the clock, so a single day of use in two weeks is enough.
You are warned at 7 days, on your profile, with the number of days left. Missing a week is not the point of this rule. Disappearing is.
2. Bring one person
Within 7 days of joining, 1 person who was not already here has to sign up through your invite link. Adding someone who already has an account does not count: the point is to grow the thing, not to trade names.
What happens if you lose it
Your account, habits, streaks, photos and notes stay exactly as they are. Nothing is deleted. What ends is the free-for-life price: the account moves to standard pricing, and the seat goes back into the pool of 250 for someone else.
You can see where you stand at any time on your profile, with the exact number of days left. Nobody loses a seat without having been able to watch the clock run down.
After the 250
The next 200 accounts can join at $50 a year, renewing at $50, and that rate is reachable only through an invite from an existing member.
